In Myanmar, is Tungsten-Tin Ore Suitable for Beneficiation?
In mid‑2019, Dasen Mining was entrusted by a tungsten‑tin mining company in Myanmar to conduct beneficiation testing and process research. The scope of work included laboratory testing, flowsheet design, and technical evaluation, with the objective of providing reliable parameters for quality improvement, impurity reduction, and comprehensive recovery of valuable minerals.
Ore Characteristics
Laboratory analysis of the raw ore indicated:
- Sn: 0.82%
- WO₃: 0.32%
- Ag: 46.50 g/t
- Pb: 0.45%
- S: 1.41%
- As: 2.22%
Phase analysis revealed cassiterite as the dominant tin mineral (93.54% of Sn) and wolframite as the primary tungsten mineral (91.42% of WO₃). Associated sulfide minerals included arsenopyrite and pyrite, with quartz as the gangue. The ore belongs to a complex quartz‑cassiterite‑wolframite type with metal sulfide associations, presenting challenges for efficient recovery.
Testing & Process Design
A full sequence of open‑circuit and closed‑circuit flotation tests was carried out. The research focused on:
- Recovering cassiterite and wolframite efficiently from the complex host rock.
- Managing harmful components such as arsenic and sulfur through flotation reagent adjustments.
- Reagent optimization, particularly in closed‑circuit tests, to reduce losses in middling products.
These results provide the technical and economic basis for future plant design, commissioning, and process debugging.
The study confirmed that with tailored flotation parameters and impurity‑control strategies, the Myanmar ore can achieve improved recovery of tin and tungsten while effectively reducing arsenic and sulfur levels. This enables the client to pursue higher concentrate grades, better metallurgical performance, and greater mine profitability.
By combining mineralogical study with process testing, Dasen Mining demonstrated its capability to deliver practical solutions for complex tungsten‑tin deposits. Our expertise in designing bespoke processing flowsheets helps clients worldwide reduce risk and maximize value from their ore bodies.
