Ore Washing System in Jos, Nigeria Alluvial Tin Plant
Dasen Mining recently commissioned an alluvial tin-tantalum-niobium processing plant near Jos, Nigeria. The flowsheet consists of:
Washing & Desliming
• Double screw washing machine
• Trommel screen
Gravity Concentration
• Jig concentrators (roughing)
• Shaking tables (cleaning)
Magnetic Separation
• Double-roll magnetic separator
• Three disc electromagnetic separator
Why a Double Screw Washing Machine ?
• Handles extremely sticky lateritic soil common in Jos placer deposits
• Aggressive scrubbing breaks up clay balls and liberates cassiterite grains
• High throughput with low water consumption
Before finalising the design, our engineering team performed an on-site material survey. Testwork confirmed the log washer would achieve the required <3 mm clean product, so no ball milling is needed—saving both capital and energy.
Because the log washer has no built-in classification, we installed a trommel screen immediately downstream to separate oversize and deliver a well-graded feed to the jig circuit.
Results
• Clay fully dispersed; concentrate grades exceed design targets
• Stable, low-maintenance operation after start-up
• Reduced operating cost thanks to the elimination of grinding equipment
