In late 2022, DASEN MINING undertook the development of a 1,000TPD tantalum-niobium ore separation plant in Sierra Leone. The mining site covers an area of approximately 3.5 square kilometers and holds both exploration and mining licenses.

After conducting a 7-day geological survey on-site, our engineering team used traditional panning methods to obtain preliminary concentrates. The results confirmed that the area possesses high economic mining value, making it suitable for long-term mineral processing development.

Ore Characteristics & Processing Approach
Tantalum and niobium are typically found together in the tantalite–columbite mineral series, often present in pegmatites, granites, carbonatites, and alkaline igneous rocks. Due to the high specific gravity of these minerals, gravity separation is the most efficient method for extracting them.

Processing Equipment: Spiral Chute
The main equipment used in this plant is the spiral chute, a gravity separation device that classifies materials based on their density and particle size.

How it works:

As slurry flows down the spiral chute, a combination of gravitational force, centrifugal force, fluid friction, and flow pressure acts on the particles.
Heavier and larger particles follow a different path compared to lighter ones.
This results in the separation of concentrate and tailings:
High-density and coarse particles are collected along the inner edge.
Lighter materials exit along the outer edge as tailings.
This method is highly efficient, chemical-free, and ideal for processing tantalum-niobium ores.
