Our Zimbabwean heap leaching project is approaching completion, with the client recently receiving the first batch of gold and silver. During the project, our engineers addressed numerous challenges related to the ore characteristics – oxidized hematite with a grade of 1-1.5g/t, featuring hard texture and clay content which affected leaching efficiency. These properties compromised heap leaching permeability and aeration, prompting our adoption of second crushing to reduce particle size below 2cm. Subsequent leaching was implemented using modular small heap leach extraction or large tank systems to resolve these issues.
In addition, customers also have questions about the detection of activated carbon. Generally, the leaching solution is tested 1-2 times a day to test the pH concentration of the solution, the gold and silver content, and the gold content in the barren liquid after the activated carbon is passed to determine whether the activated carbon adsorption capacity has room. If the gold content of the barren liquid is high, it proves that the activated carbon is saturated and the activated carbon is replaced in time. The activated carbon used for heap leaching can be used by simply washing, or adding a little activation agent during the adsorption process. It is very simple and does not require special treatment, or you can directly give customers high-standard water-washed carbon.
In addition to the problem about activated carbon, there are also the elements that mainly affect the recovery rate, such as arsenic, carbon, copper, and sulfide. Excessive iron will also affect the recovery rate. Ultimately, it depends on the experimental data or the adjustment of auxiliary reagents.Final adjustments depend on experimental data and auxiliary reagent optimization. Any operational issues during leaching were resolved immediately, accompanied by client training programs to ensure independent future operations.
