Zircon Sand Processing Project in South Africa
These pictures show the zircon sand samples from South Africa, sourced from diamond ore tailings.
This customer is processing zircon sand for the first time, and they entrusted DASEN Mining Machinery to carry out the complete sample testing and process design.
1. Sample Testing and Element Analysis
After receiving the sample, our laboratory team evenly collected a small representative portion for content testing.
Through comprehensive element analysis, we determine the proportion of zircon, ilmenite, monazite, and silica in the material.
This data becomes the foundation for custom‑designing the beneficiation flow that delivers the highest possible recovery and grade.
(You can see the evenly picked samples in the photos above.)
2. Recommended Zircon Sand Processing Flow
Based on many successful projects, the general zircon sand beneficiation process follows these four steps:
- Step 1 – Gravity Separation
Use spiral chutes or shaking tables to wash out and separate coarse silica and light minerals. - Step 2 – Primary Magnetic Separation
Remove ferromagnetic materials such as iron oxide to improve product purity. - Step 3 – Secondary Magnetic Separation
Further separate ilmenite, monazite, tin, and zircon from the remaining mixed minerals using adjustable magnetic intensity. - Step 4 – Electrostatic Separation
Use high‑voltage electrostatic separators to obtain a high‑grade zircon concentrate suitable for industrial applications.
These process steps are widely applied in zircon processing plants around the world and refined through DASEN’s field experience.
3. Proven Project Experience
DASEN Mining Machinery has built and commissioned several zircon sand beneficiation plants in Africa and Southeast Asia.
Each project follows rigorous laboratory testing, process customization, and on‑site commissioning, ensuring high recovery rates and stable performance.
(Below are photos of several zircon sand processing lines previously completed by our engineers.)
