Filter Press for a 10TPD Containerized Gold Leaching Plant
At the customer’s request, Dasen Mining included a membrane filter press in the equipment package for a 10TPD containerized gold leaching plant. The package also includes a corrosion-resistant slurry feed pump, an outlet transfer pump and replacement parts.
This article outlines the proposed configuration and the details to check before ordering a filter press for a small-scale gold processing plant.
What Does the Filter Press Do?
A filter press separates slurry into two streams: solid filter cake and liquid filtrate. The feed pump pushes slurry into chambers between the filter plates. Solids collect on the filter cloths while liquid passes through them into the drainage outlets.
A membrane filter press adds a squeezing stage. Its membranes press against the formed cake to remove additional liquid. The final cake moisture depends on the slurry and operating conditions, so it should be established through testing rather than assumed from the equipment model.
For this project, the process drawing should identify the filter press feed stream and the destinations of both the filtrate and filter cake.
Proposed Membrane Filter Press Specifications
The preliminary equipment list contains the following specifications:
| Item | Listed specification |
|---|---|
| Filter press type | Membrane filter press |
| Model | XMY50/800-U |
| Filtration area | 60 m² — subject to confirmation |
| Filter chamber depth | 30 mm |
| Total filter chamber volume | 0.7 m³ |
| Listed motor power | 2.2 kW — motor duty to be confirmed |
The model, filtration area, plate arrangement and motor duty must be checked against the supplier’s final technical drawing before purchase.
The plant’s 10TPD rating alone is not enough to size the press. Slurry volume, solids concentration, daily operating hours and filtration cycle time also affect the required capacity. A representative slurry test helps check whether the proposed configuration can meet the plant’s needs.
Pumps Included in the Package
The customer’s equipment list includes two pumps:
- Corrosion-resistant slurry feed pump: specified for feeding slurry to the filter press.
- Outlet transfer pump: listed as a sewage pump in the preliminary package. Its final duty should be confirmed against the liquid it will handle.
Feed pump selection deserves attention. The pump must suit the required flow and filtration pressure, rather than simply transfer slurry to the machine.
Before ordering, confirm the outlet liquid, pump materials and connection details. These items should be shown clearly in the final equipment schedule.
Filter Cloths and Spare Parts
The requested spare-parts package includes:
- Filter cloths
- Replacement filter plates
- Filter plate handles
- Outlet taps
The final packing list should state the quantity and specification of each item.
Replacement cloths should be selected for the slurry and operating conditions, not only for their dimensions. Slurry composition, pH and temperature are among the factors that affect cloth and plate selection.
